Holiday special: Inside India’s Holy Men – Cannabis News Network

It is the end of the year. The Christmas holiday is just around the corner. A perfect moment for a holiday special about a beautiful and sacred place, presented to you by Cannabis News Network. Sit back and enjoy this unique journey, far into the Himalayan mountains of India.

Cannabis has a long and rich history in India, veiled in legends and religion. The earliest mention of cannabis has been found in the Vedas, or sacred Hindu texts. These writings may have been compiled as early as 2000 B.C. According to the Vedas, cannabis was one of five sacred plants because it is a source of happiness, a joy-giver, and a liberator that was compassionately given to humans to help us attain delight and lose fear.

A famous cannabis juice called Bhang hails from India. According to the legendary story, the Hindu god Shiva wandered off into the fields after a fight with his family. Drained from the family conflict and the hot sun, Shiva fell asleep under a leafy plant. When he woke, his curiosity led him to sample some leaves of the plant. Instantly rejuvenated, Shiva made the plant his favourite food and he became known as the Lord of Bhang.

Cannabis News Network’s journey leads the production team deep into the Himalayan mountains, to a remote cave, far away from daily life. Here they meet their Sadhu, or Baba, who explains them why cannabis is considered a sacred plant and how it has been used, spiritually and medicinally. Sadhus are dedicated monks, sacrificing their life for a higher state of mind and often using cannabis to get there.
