Polygala tenuifolia – Yuan zhi


Polygala tenuifolia is a traditional Asian medicinal herb. It can be found in the moderate regions of Asia (Northern China, Japan). Used are the pungent-sweet tasting yellow-brown roots.

Use: 1 tablespoon of the roots is drunk as tea or pulverized and mixed with other herbs. Intake should be done daily over several weeks. The effect was verified by readers of this book.

Active constituents: Saponines, particularly tenuifolin.

Effects: It is used in taoistic medicine, to enhance memory and mental capabilities.
